SACH has conducted an orientation session in Islamabad for urban youth in refugee community in commemoration of the World Refugee Day on Thursday June 19, 2015. Ms. Shazia Azhar from SACH - Struggle for Change gave a brief introduction of the organization and shared with audience that the organization is devoted to the victims of violence and torture. The discussion took place within the context of World Refugee Day. The purpose of the activity was to sensitize the refugee youth about various psychosocial issues arising in the context of refugee situation. Violence leaves its adverse psychological impact and it is not a hidden fact that refugees are one of the most vulnerable segments to violence and torture. A session by Ms. Tayyaba Tahir, Psychosocial Counselor – SACH, highlighted the disturbed psychological patterns due to violence and ways to deal with such problems. The participants were encouraged to take active part in the discussion, where they shared various problems they face in the country of asylum. The discussion was directed in a way to assist the participants find solutions to their problems by them.
Ms. Khalida Salimi, Executive Director SACH stated in her message for the commemoration that the organization has been working for the refugees living in Pakistan. She shared that Pakistan is the host to one of the largest refugee population in the world and SACH has been working for these refugee for the last 20 years. The celebrations will not only highlight the refugee situation in the country, but will also help develop a better understanding regarding refugee lives and their conditions among human rights activists working for the cause of refugees.
